in honor of Pride weekend here in DC, what better song than "take it like a man" by Dragonette to get ready for a night on the town? the song is very catchy and the video... well the video is straight out of the 70s. Martina Sorbara and her cherry necklace makes Petrov a little weak in the knees. "but who is martina?", you ask Petrov. well martina is a fine young lady we have all heard before on the Basement Jaxx album "Crazy Itch Radio." (she sings 'take me back to your house'). anywho, happy pride!
Petrov radio is now available at the bottom of this page, with a streaming playlist of all songs from CYHfSN. petrov has not figured out how to put it somewhere more suitable on the page so for now it shall remain neglected down there.
further... damn youtube has a lot of stuff on it. until petrov began this blog, he didn't realize most songs have music videos on there and if they don't, there is some monkey attempting to sing to it.
also, petrov has added a running list of interesting blog entries from across the net called "from other blogs." you can subscribe to it on the rss icon to the left.
after some work, petrov was able to convert CYHfSN into a 3 column page, which took a lot more work than had been expected (or should be necessry).
what has been learned today? petrov needs html and web2.0 lessons.
Apparently its too much to ask for CBC from any cable or satellite provider in the States with the exception of along the border. Did you know you can get an Indonesian tv channel, but not a Canadian one?? Somehow I find it hard to believe there are more Indonesians in the US than there are Canadians. NBC's coverage of hockey is pathetic, but they have insured they have the rights to all things Stanley Cup, so I have been denied the allowance of at least watching HNiC online.
Oh well, apparently FoxReality does receive a large enough audience to make it into my cable bill though.
So the appropriate answer on tv for major sporting events is always "I'm going to Disneyland!" or some crap like that. At the current rate, Anneheim will be answering that question... but will they go to Disneyland, when they are right there? I hope they at least go to Disneyworld instead. Ottawa is down 3-1 in the Stanley Cup final and Petrov is none too pleased.
Disneyland.... in coming upon Petrov's new boyfriends, scratch that, new band find (Datarock), Petrov discovered a "Fa Fa Fa" remix by a band called Shakes. These young laddies also hale from the land where people eat corgies to protest animal cruelty... go figure. Petrov has enjoyed this song of theirs called Disneyland Prt. 1, probably a bit too much since Petrov discovered it, but he enjoys the mixture of rock/punk/dance/etc... the song brings together. Anway, it is long past Petrov's bedtime, so here is the video, and he suggests you turn your speakers up and dance one for that poor corgi killed in the name of ending animal cruelty.
well well well.... what do we have hear? well these two fine gentlemen, better known as Datarock, have accomplished the tag team that makes Petrov love them. 1) a sweet sound (of course) and 2) sometimes equally importantly... the looks. Detective Petrov is depressed to see a ring on that damn ring finger. Oh well... its not like Petrov was going to get a triple slam with a (1) hot, (2) indie rocking man with a (3) british accent.
Petrov only discovered Datarock this past weekend and his info on the band is limited to the Fa-Fa-Fa EP and two other random songs. Be sure that Petrov will be further inspecting the full length 2007 self-titled album very soon for some more catchy beats. But for now Petrov leaves you with, you guessed it, "Fa Fa Fa" track from their latest EP.
Though Bloc Party party tickets are on the high end of Petrov's allowance for concerts, he is looking forward to it. This will also be Petrov's first visit to DAR, which is notorious for awful acoustics. Petrov has turned down past concerts at DAR due to this reputation, but has decided its time to give it a chance. Much like Petrov's first experience on a metrobus yesterday. Thankfully, they did not make rabbit roadkill out of Petrov, and for that alone he is happy.
If you don't already know Bloc Party, you should go inspect their music more thoroughly. First up is a Bloc Party video contest winner, which is quite elaborate for an amateur.
Second up is something for those of you who like coldplay, who Petrov knows are out there. Petrov saw coldplay way back in the day. unfortunately, Petrov chose to eat poutine several hours earlier, which ended up making him ill and in turn (not knowingly) taking pepto bismol without enough water making the people around Petrov on the concert floor think Petrov was coming down from some powerful drugs. This is a well put together mix of the instrumental of some coldplay song and the vocals from Bloc Party's "Hunting for Witches." Enjoy.
well petrov has promised new music... but unfortunately week 1 of Clap Your Hands for Something New is a very busy concert week for Petrov. As such, I feel the necessity to share some songs about these concerts for those of you who don't know these bands already.
Tonight Petrov will surely be dancing to The Pipettes. what is greater than some cute indie girls dressed up and dancing on stage like they are 60s divas? Petrov is unsure of how he feels about the whole cd "We are the Pipettes," but several songs certainly are fun and I feel like seeing The Pipettes live will inspire Petrov to bust some hot 60s dance moves.
Well, what Petrov would like to show you is a video of the song "Pull Shapes," but such is not available so here is "Your Kisses are Wasted on Me." The previous paragraph will be fully understood in watching this video.
You may now close your door and start dancing with "Pull Shapes."
Clap Your Hands for Something New, is a website designed to provide insight into new music for those looking to expand their musical horizons. Almost all music and video links were already publicly available on the internet. If you wish the links to media available via other websites to be removed from CYHfSN please email Petrov. Petrov advocates the purchase of drm-free music when possible (drm-ladeneed when not possible) through websites such as emusic and itunes (and hopefully more to come).
