a hair tribute

as previously mentioned.... the new pornographers are making a DC tour stop. this new video released by the band and its tribute to massive quantities of hair in an itunes-esque video will.... petrov doesn't know what it will do... but listen to the sweet tunes and come with petrov to the concert :-)

vampires at christmas

in a limited number of shows, Vampire Weekend will be playing throughout February with a couple shows in January and March. DC is lucky enough to have them coming to DC for a show at the Rock and Roll Hotel (now only a hop skip and a jump) away from petrov's new abode. woohoo. There a fun little band that petrov suggests you all go see. They seem to lack something in petrov's eye in terms of sounds, it just seems just a little too barebones for his taste, but who is he to judge?

shite

petrov must apologize profusely, its been almost a month since he has posted. where has the time flown these past few weeks? it seems like everyday is filled with something that has to be done. even today, its 12.30am and he is just now thinking oh yeah, what about that blog thing? well where to start on the past two weeks? let us summarize the topics that need to be covered (can you say "us" in the third person? you can say "they" but that doesn't refer to him and you, but instead someone else, petrov is tired, but he's pretty sure there is no way to refer to himself in the the third person and you, the reader, also in the third person in a simple way): (1) Beowulf, (2) Town Danceboutique, (3) New Pornographers, (4) M.I.A., (5) domestic partnerships, and (6) turducken.
(1) well against petrov's own better judgment, he went and saw Beowulf in "digital 3-D," which requires the oh so fashionable 3-D glasses. let us first start with what is not told in the trailers.... beowulf fights grendel naked. 2/3rds of the reason petrov saw the movie was because the lesbians wanted to see Angelina naked in 3-d, but the movie ended up being very homoerotic around beowulf. granted he had his little girl tricks, but hey beowulf nearly taking a spear up his woo-ha, repeatedly, doesn't exactly scream "straight."
(2) saturday night Town opened, the new gay dance club on 8th and Florida/U St. the music sucked the big one, petrov is glad he didn't go until 3am (doesn't close until 5am). further, though the bar closes before 3am, you are not permitted to be holding a drink after 3am, resulting in guys coming around taking your drink and throwing it in a garbage bucket....classy, real classy.
(3)New Pornographers, petrov is still sad he missed the New Pornographers during his Africa trip.... here is the new video.
the boy holding the girl's hand looks a little like TR Knight, no? maybe a little?
(4)MIA is one week from this friday. she grew up in an Eleam family, as her father is considered the founder of the militant group. coincidentally (???) there have been several times her visa has been denied for the United States. let's hope she makes it to her DC tour date, cuz it is going to be splendiferous, regardless of political views.
(5)the lesbians got domestic partner-cated last friday in what is mostly likely the fastest most random and filthy shot gun wedding petrov will ever experience. let's just say petrov had to sit and watch a 4year old blow spit bubbles at him and pretend it was semi-humorous as his mother sat their and sad "isn't that just the cutest thing???? he just isn't going to stop." i considered that a nice brain tumor was appropriate willed into the child's brain (too cruel? insert apologetic phrase here if you like children).
(6) turkducken...... WTF? bless their hearts, but what the hell is the matter with southern people?

DAM! Fest

The District's Awake Music Festival (DAM! Fest) announced some of the main performers appearing at this year's festival. Most notably... Cat Power. Petrov loves Cat Power, but he is sad that he will be in Africa on her night on stage at the 9.30 club. oh wells, petrov hopes ya'll enjoy the show though. (and no petrov doesn't get the video either).

iphone

ok, so petrov is a technology whore. so? well today the iphone goes on sale to the masses. and we certainly do mean mass(es). petrov is all for new fangled technologies, but he remains unconvinced of the whole camping out bit that numerous individuals have taken to since monday. this man pictured to the left little friends, is the first person to get in line anywhere to purchase an iphone. who still wants an iphone so they can be just like this guy?

petov has decided to wait for the second generation iphone for three primary reasons:
1) the internet service on the iphone makes fencepost racing sound like nascar (its slower than dialup... prepare to wait 2full minutes for the yahoo homepage to download).
2) 4/8gb harddrive... really? petrov will keep his 30gb ipod.
3)the headphone jack... apparently the iphone requires an adapter to use your own earphones. are you kidding? the thing is meant to play music and you have to have an adapter? we all know that adapters sticking high and dry out of a gadget is just asking for trouble.

therefore petrov believes its best to wait for iphone2.0 or the new touchscreen ipods built on OSX.

rainin' in paradize

be ready to be offended (a little bit). petrov is still not a huge manu chao fan. after seeing them with thievery corporation, petrov was able to dance, but the music lacked that something special for him. anyway, petrov knows there are several regular readers out there who "i heart manu chao" so here is his latest video/song.

recycle your pop (songs)

in lines with the fergalicious post.... the new Nelly Furtado video... have we seen it before? Yes. Is it better than the original? Petrov sees a scantily clad wet man in the original, nothing in the new...so No. FYI, Shania is a Petrov guilty guilty pleasure, but she rides snowmbiles, so he is ok with that. To be fair to Nelly, she at least mixed it up with some ideas from other Shania videos.

architecture in helsinki

Petrov decided awhile ago to put a song called "Heart it Races" by Architecture in Helsinki on the blog for your aural-satisfaction. However, he has been tripped up with which song to actually place on here, because you see, the song has already been remixed by the likes of DJRupture, Hey Willpower!, Dr Dog, Trizzy, and Yacht. So instead Petrov has come to the decision to give you the whole enslaught, plus AiH's video for the song. Petrov is sort of partial to the original and Dr Dog's remix, but he would appreciate hearing back from you on which version is your favorite. Comment away!

fyi, the video makes Petrov smile a little.

them swedes are shifty little liars!

no... i love the swedes, especially several extremely cute members of I'm from Barcelona. Petrov has two crushes in the band. this video isn't anything new nor amazing in any musical sense, but its upbeat and makes you want to shimmy a little bit doesn't it?

can you guess who petrov's crush is?

icky thumps, the white stripes

hookers, mexicans.... what isn't there to love?

the faint @ 9.30c

4 carrots

There is no workout quite as fun or sweaty as spending an hour and a half in a mosh pit. Last night Petrov danced his booty to a mix of the standard faint songs and 5 or 6 new songs that the band was testing out on the audience. For the most part the new songs have the standard electro-rock sound one associates with the faint. The exception was a single slow song that started the encore, that was not in Petrov's opinion very good at all and only worsened by a squealing microphone that plagued the first half of the song. Let it be known... mosh pits do not enjoy slow songs during the encore. however, my poor exhausted legs reveled the chance to relax.

The venue was overrun with a 18+ crowd that has two clear redeeming qualities for the annoyance of the standard 18-21 yo audience: 1) everyone is shorter than Petrov and 2) the line at the bar was vastly shorter and quicker. Regardless the show the show was extremely fun for Petrov and the new album sounds like it will likely shape up well. Petrov gives The Faint 4 carrots for a job well done (and rehearsed).

Take me away from the ponies and to the hospital

Barely back from my weekend with the wild ponies of Chincoteague, tonight Petrov is going to The Faint's sold out show at 9.30club. To my knowledge, this band is one of only two things to hail from Omaha, Nebraska... the other being Omaha steaks (or at least the name implies such). Unlike the overpriced meat delivered via mail to your front door, The Faint's next (still unscheduled, but rumored to be soon) album is something Petrov looks forward to after my dearest postman leaves it on my porch sitting in the hot DC sun all day. The band's last release was in 2005, which has left me knowing the words to every song, making tonight's show a not so good experience for whoever Petrov shall be standing next to.

Let it be known for future reference that Petrov has no sense of categorization of music by genre, but if Petrov were put in a corner he'd call The Faint an indie electro-rock band. 'Take me to the hospital' is a song Petrov was unfamiliar with until recently due to the fact the song was only released on a compilation by the band's record label, Saddlecreek.
